We Are Social’s Tuesday Tune Up
Instagram’s new Threads app has reached 100 million users within just five days
Instagram has launched new app ‘Threads’ that allows users to join through their Instagram account, pulling information over to the app such as their username and profile picture. The feed is similar to Twitter’s, though there’s currently no option to view only users you follow. CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg noted on the day of launching Threads, that the app had attracted 2 million sign-ups in two hours, 5 million sign-ups in four hours, and 10 million registered users in seven hours. The next morning, Zuckerberg said more than 30 million people had signed up to try the new app. We’ve pulled together everything you need to know about Threads over on our LinkedIn page – check it out here.
Twitter rival Bluesky hits its first million installs
Bluesky, another Twitter rival, has hit 1 million subscribers. The only way to join Bluesky is by joining the waiting list or getting an existing user to give you an invite – a company decision made so that the app will not expand too fast and experience a system failure. Data.ai reports that the move by Twitter to restrict users on the number of tweets they could read per day, allowed Bluesky to hit its new milestone, as an estimated 300,000 new Bluesky accounts were registered since June 30.
Shazam can now identify songs from YouTube, Instagram and TikTok
Shazam, the app that allows users to identify songs, will now be able to recognise songs on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. The Apple-owned app can identify songs through use of the microphone, but this new addition will allow cross app song recognition on iPhone and Android. This is definitely a useful tool for those unidentifiable catchy tunes on TikTok!
TikTok launches a music streaming service called ‘TikTok Music’
