\ Editorial Director

The Editorial Director at We Are Social is responsible for the editorial strategy, output and process and will provide leadership to teach the team and build new approaches to benefit our current and prospective clients. The Editorial Director needs to be able to deliver world-class content propositions and outputs. This is both a management and hands-on role.

Your work challenges the status quo and helps your clients to push boundaries in their content marketing. You will have impressive editorial experience and demonstrable business acumen across multimedia with substantial experience in digital publishing.

Specific Content of your Role

The nature of We Are Social’s business requires a high level of flexibility, common sense and versatility. While the specific content of your role is clearly defined, the nature of the demands placed on us by our clients means that this role will evolve over time and needs a ‘can do’ approach to picking projects up and making them happen.

You’re responsible to the Executive Creative Director and the Managing Director

Key Responsibilities

● Lead the editorial direction of projects for our clients’ brands, defining both their creative and strategic direction
● Help drive and create world-class content and ideas for our client’s success
● Produce strategically sound, creatively compelling editorial strategies
● Deliver agenda-setting, socially-led editorial content
● Develop strong strategic relationships with senior clients, then leverage this relationship and industry expertise to have a maximum impact on clients’ business
● Manage a team of editors, writers and freelancers to deliver against a client’s creative and strategic plan
● Provide thought leadership and set the agenda on social and editorial excellence and best practice
● Maintain editorial integrity, quality and effectiveness for We Are Social clients
● Assist in producing big social ideas, ultimately, delivering world-class campaigns with care and attention down to an executional level
● Actively participate in and contribute to success in new business pitches
● Coach and guide all editorial team members providing support, direction & learning opportunities
● Develop proprietary ways of working and products
● Work collaboratively with above-the-line and media agencies to develop platform-neutral, aligned always on.

Editorial Skills and Experience

● Content specialist with extensive branded editorial and social experience
● At least 10 years of experience in an editorial or agency environment with an ‘audience-first approach’ to creating content
● Strong commercial and new business acumen
● A persuasive and articulate communicator across every medium
● Excellent presenting skills: articulate, passionate, authoritative, charming, capable of instilling confidence
● A breadth of experience in social, digital and other communications platforms, such as print or broadcast
● A significant experience at equivalent senior-level in-house or agency-side
● Proven ability to work quickly and effectively across all platforms, web and social
● Proven flair for ideas and creating agenda-setting content
● Demonstrable experience turning insight into content and measuring the impact of your work
● An understanding and appreciation of working with strategy, creative and insight departments
● A keen interest in social media and appreciation of the rapidly changing social landscape
● Expert knowledge of social media marketing and how to orchestrate the relationships between owned, earned and paid media

Leadership Skills and Experience

● A great leader with proven track record running a high performing team and getting the most out of individuals
● An exceptional operator, able to manage a number of relationships both internally across departments and externally with clients and in the industry
● Ability to work quickly and perform well under pressure and short deadlines
● Experience pitching and presenting to senior stakeholders
● Ability to oversee projects from conception to delivery
● Collaboration with other specialisms to create the very best work
● Ability to scope work and manage budgets
● Experience working at senior management level
