Instagram Just Upgraded Its Two-Factor Authentication

Having added Two-Factor Authentication a year ago, Instagram has just stepped it up. Its previous iteration relied solely on SMSes to send authentication codes in the second step of the process. Users can now choose that or a more secure method: authentication apps, instead.

Authentication apps – like Authy or Google Authenticator – sidestep possible vulnerabilities in the SMS authentication route, namely, that hackers might be able to divert or intercept text messages sent to your phone. The apps, however, do not rely on mobile carriers, keeping codes within them even if one’s mobile number is compromised, and tend to generate codes that expire within 30 seconds.

Instagram users will be able to tweak their Two-Factor Authentication preferences in the Privacy & Security section of their Settings in the Instagram app.

Now You Can Be An Influencer On The Sims

If becoming famous is unachievable in the real world, do it in the virtual world instead. Set to release on 16 November 2018, Get Famous, the Sims 4’s latest expansion pack, introduces a new career: Becoming an influencer.

With a career as an influencer, you can “bask in the limelight as an inspiring influencer, live streaming every lavish moment and giving other Sims maximum #FOMO.” Work your way up and gain worldwide acclaim, attend exclusive parties with other A-listers, outrun starstruck fans, and more.

It seems like building a career as an influencer is slowly but surely becoming a (virtual) reality.

Instagram tests tapping instead of scrolling through posts, first in Explore

Fast forwarding through Stories could now be applicable to more of Instagram. A screenshot from user Suprateek Bose shows Instagram “Introducing a new way to move through posts — Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories.”

Now Instagram confirms to TechCrunch that it’s testing tap to advance within Explore, and a spokesperson provided this statement: “We’re always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love.”

Pioneered by Snapchat, the tap to advance feature provides full screen media and cuts down time users have to adjust to get the entire post in one screen, overall allowing users to have a more relaxing browsing experience. For advertisers, this new feature on Instagram could mean increasing users’ thumb stamina when it comes to feeds and stories viewing.
