Now you can hail an Uber using Facebook Messenger
I use Uber so much, it would probably be easier to just let the app know when I don’t need one. Now they’ve become even more accessible via integration with Facebook Messenger. Users will be able to simply add an address or tap the new car icon without leaving their conversation. Or Facebook. Ever.

Facebook has launched a new Events section
As part of Facebook’s events offering, you’ll now be able to search for things to do on dates which suit you and filter them into categories such as Drinks, Nightlife, Sports & Fitness, Fine Arts & Crafts, Community, Film & Photography, Performing Arts, and Causes. This spells trouble for other events apps, what with Facebook knowing what we like, when we like it, who we like it with and where we are…

Facebook rolls out livestreaming to verified pages

Twitter Moments launches in the UK
Moments, a service which provides up-to-date ‘packages’ of news to Twitter users, has now launched in the UK. The picture-led section of Twitter, which is curated by British journalists, serves up content surrounding breaking stories in different categories including news, sports and entertainment. It has launched with 18 different production partners such as The Sun, Buzzfeed UK and Sky News and promises not just comments from celebrities but also eye-witnesses, people from the street and great one-liners. Twitter will be monetising it by allowing commercial partners to produce “Promoted Moments”.

Bloomingdales introduces an Instagram gift bot
Bloomingdales has packaged four Christmas gift guides into buzzy Instagram videos which showcase 100 items in just a few seconds. Users can screenshot the videos to see a small selection and then visit Pinterest to buy seamlessly through the platform, which integrates with Apple Pay, for super quick spontaneous purchases which we will all no doubt regret when that January credit card bill comes in. The company is also testing activations on Snapchat, which uses a geofilter that appears when users are near or in a store.

Mercedes Benz brings some Christmas cheer to fans’ private messages Mercedes Benz has been surprising fans by private messaging people on Facebook and Instagram and offering them to chance to gift loved-ones courtesy of the brand. Using the hashtag #MBSecretSanta, Mercedes is only messaging people who are already fans of the brand and it’s not part of any lead generation activity. The brand is giving away 1000s of gifts including watches and blue-tooth speakers and has also created a humourous video entitled ‘Elf-Driving’.

Misshapen Reese’s Trees hit the shelves in the US
A festive favourite in the US, some less than perfect Reese’s Trees have fallen into the hands of consumers and they’re going down like a Reese’s Tree shaped turd in a lift.

Reeses-post-1
Luckily, Reese’s has found a lovely sentiment to come back with by using the hashtag #alltreesarebeautiful.

Kit Kat scores its most retweeted tweet ever with One Direction
One Direction have accounted for five of the ten most retweeted tweets of the year and when they announced their upcoming hiatus, Kit Kat obviously couldn’t resist but throw something out to see if they’d bite. A perfect ‘oreo-moment’, this is what they put out and the directioners went wild for it after Liam retweeted it to his 21.5 million followers.
