This week, we have a host of new ad updates from Threads, TikTok and Snapchat. And, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is telling us how he’s going to take over the (ad) world with AI – so nothing new there.
Meanwhile, TikTokers are calling out delulu behaviour, a new OOTD sound is trending, and the curse of the coworker generational gap strikes again. Read on for more social media news.
Threads tests new video ads

Meta has announced that, for the first time, Threads users will see video ads on the platform. A “small number” of initial advertisers are getting the chance to share videos that will appear between pieces of organic content in the Threads feed.
TikTok has boosted its ad offering by expanding its Pulse Suite, with Pulse Core and Pulse Premiere. TikTok Pulse Suite already matches brands with trending content, but Pulse Core will place ads next to the top user-generated videos, and Pulse Premiere will place ads next to premium publisher content. Brands such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Formula 1 and Red Bull Media have already signed on as partners for Pulse Premier.
Snapchat has announced a range of new ad options, including AI-powered budget and bidding options. The new AI bidding lets advertisers set a cost-per-action target, and Snap’s system will do all the hard work. Snap is also adding “Smart Budget,” which allows advertisers to set spending allocations to spend their budget on their highest-performing ads. The platform is also updating sponsored snaps with more ways for brands to improve their reach.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has heads turning with his new AI plans. Speaking at Stripe’s annual Sessions conference, Zuckerberg took audiences through his plans to automate to entire ad industry (*gulp*). The job-threatening industry-changing machine would be able to create thousands of AI-generated “test” ads directed to Meta users, and would be able to come up with “4,000 different versions of your creative”. But, worry not – this is all just hypothetical for now…
