Chinese Social Media Trends 2012
How will the world’s largest population take the world of social in 2012?
Mailman has published its expectations of how the Chinese population will embrace mobile and social media platforms in 5 big ways.
One that really stands out for us is the potential of social gaming. They cite that fact that the world’s (arguably) most famous social game – Farmville – already counts 50+ million players every day, but Sina Weibo’s gaming portal – which only launched 6 months ago – already has 22 million active game users.
We concur with Mailman – social gaming will get even bigger in 2012. Look out for similar growth from Japan’s Gree and Mobage too.
Other trends Mailman predict for the coming 12 months include:
- The use of QR codes, especially to facilitate shopping anywhere, anytime;
- Online reviews, and their efficacy versus traditional advertising;
- The socialisation of sports, especially football (soccer);
- Physical toys to accompany tablets like the iPad.
