Meta scraps fact-checkers

Meta has announced that it will be ending its use of third-party fact-checkers across Facebook, Instagram and Threads. It will be replaced by a Community Notes system, much like X’s, meaning users will be responsible for flagging content that they believe is incorrect and misleading. Google searches for terms like “how to delete Facebook” have surged by 5,000%.

Meta creates AI-images from selfies

Meta is pushing the boundaries of what’s acceptable – and what is just a little bit creepy – when it comes to AI. Some users are reportedly seeing targeted ads featuring AI-generated versions of themselves. This appears to be part of Meta’s new experiment, which uses selfies uploaded to its AI image tool to create personalised ads that encourage users to take full advantage of Meta’s AI abilities.

X labels parody accounts

X will now start labelling parody or satire accounts to make sure users can differentiate them from other accounts. This will hopefully prevent confusion after several instances where users mistook posts from parody accounts as genuine statements. The labels will be visible on both the parody account profile and its posts.
