We Are Social’s Asia Tuesday Tune Up
This week, YouTube and LinkedIn are using AI to give users a helping hand. TikTok is making the most of our competitive nature by gamifying live streams. Plus, Elon Musk is making more changes on X and, *surprise*, it’s going to cost you more money.
Meanwhile, the wedding procession trend is back on TikTok, but this time with some very funny – and chaotic – suggestions. Read on for more social media news.
YouTube launches AI-powered search tool

YouTube is launching a new AI-powered search that will show a carousel of videos along with your query. For example, searching ‘best beaches in Hawaii’ could show a carousel of videos showing the best snorkel spots or volcanic beaches. YouTube says that it’s now testing the feature for selected queries with YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S. Alongside this, YouTube is also expanding its conversational AI tool to non-Premium subscribers.

TikTok has updated its “Fan Club” to help boost viewer engagement. When viewers send a creator a virtual gift during a stream, they are automatically made a Fan Club member. Club members can then complete tasks to go up a level within the club and gain rewards. Rewards include access to an exclusive creator chat room, special gifts, member badges, and entry lights that highlight your username.
Threads expands Hidden Words feature

Threads now has its own Hidden Words setting to hide posts that contain words, phrases and emojis that you don’t want to see. Previously, Hidden Words was tied to Instagram, so the filters that you applied would be across content on both platforms. But now you can create a separate list and set time limits for filters to be applied.
X makes changes to ad pricing

X is making a change to its ad placements, with bigger ads soon costing more to post. X owner, Elon Musk, confirmed that the platform will be charging ads based on its vertical size – i.e. the more of the screen it takes up, the more it costs.
