TikTok is launching a new app called TikTok Pro, featuring its new Sunshine Programme, which allows users to support charities. Users can earn “virtual sunshine” by inviting friends to join the app and by engaging with charity-related content. The virtual sunshine can then be applied to a charity, and TikTok will make a donation. The new app doesn’t have any livestreams, shopping features, or ads and is only available in Germany, Portugal, and Spain.
Threads has expanded its API functions, adding a list of new features. Meta first launched the Threads API in June last year, with a focus on post scheduling. The new updates include: location tagging for posts, the ability to add polls, delete posts, updated search analysis, and many more.
TikTok has officially launched Footnotes with roll-out starting in the U.S. The feature, similar to X’s and Meta’s Community Notes feature, is a user-based fact-checking system. TikTok users will be able to see notes that have been rated as helpful and submit their ratings in return. TikTok began allowing U.S. users to apply to be a contributor back in April, and now has nearly 80,000 Footnotes contributors.
