LinkedIn has announced a new button labeled “seems like AI slop” for users to report content they think has been written using AI. LinkedIn is also investing in automatic features that block “hundreds of thousands” of automated comment attempts every day. Users that have multiple posts reported will be privately alerted in their dashboard.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed it has new apps coming up. Zuckerberg told investors “I’m … excited about how AI is helping our teams speed up product development […] AI is improving our core business; it’s making our apps more relevant and delivering better results for businesses. We’re starting to deliver more novel products, and we’ll have a lot more there soon as well.”. Investors didn’t ask any questions about the new apps but Zuckerberg suggested that people won’t have long to wait to see what’s next.
Much like LinkedIn, Snapchat is also saying no to AI slop. The platform announced that it will no longer promote fully AI-generated content on the app and will instead reward “authentic creativity” – aka human-made. This refers to Snapchat’s Spotlight page, where it shares popular content. Snapchat said it wants Spotlight to “remain a place where people can discover authentic creativity from real people, because we believe there’s enduring value in rewarding original perspectives, personal storytelling, and the moments that people choose to create and share themselves.”
Reddit is testing a new “video Reddit” feature that will let users watch videos and listen to posts in the background. Announced during the company’s Q2 earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman told investors “There is an emerging content type elsewhere on the internet of, basically, podcasts where people read Reddit content […] I think this version of, like, listened-to or spoken Reddit can be really engaging, as well.” Essentially, Reddit is being TikTok-ified. The feature is set to start testing later this year.
