Meta previews features for new Edits app

Meta has revealed some of the features coming to its upcoming Edits app. Once launched, users will be able to capture up to 10 minutes of footage, store drafts, edit via a playback timeline, find clip inspiration—including trending sounds—access video analytics, and more.

But what’s grabbing everyone’s attention are the creator collaboration features, which allow users to invite others to contribute to in-progress projects, and the AI-powered tools, such as the ability to animate still images with AI.

Instagram adds new tools for creators

Instagram is rolling out a new metric called “View Rate”, that allows creators to see what percentage of viewers are still watching their video after the first three seconds. There will also be a new “Views Over Time” metric which shows how many views a reel has received so far compared to the creator’s average over the same time period. Instagram will also start providing creators with feedback to help them better understand their reels’ performance.

Meta teases a return to OG Facebook

During Meta’s Q4 2024 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg teased a “return to OG Facebook” as part of the company’s goals for 2025. He aims to make Facebook more “culturally influential” and appealing to younger users by reviving the way it was originally used “back in the day.” Also during the call, Meta CFO Susan Li reassured investors that scrapping fact-checking hasn’t impacted ad spend.
