This week, Instagram has unveiled not one, not two, but seven new platform updates. It’s not all about IG, though. Snapchat is helping you make the most of your content, YouTube makes finding content on the platform easier, and more.
Meanwhile, a new AI video tool has made a fun-loving Stormtrooper a social star, and TikTok has been taken over by the latest dance trend, this time soundtracked by Sabrina Carpenter’s latest hit. Read on for more social media news.

Snapchat is launching new ways to make the most of your content, including a new option that will create videos from your Memories – essentially building a highlight reel. You will be able to add a soundtrack and choose from different creative templates. Another update lets users automatically save their public Stories directly to their profile, “so that fans can catch up on and revisit their favourite creator content.” And finally, Snapchat’s also rolling out a new video editing UI to make it easier to manage your video projects in the app.
Instagram is also launching two new features for creators: Recaps and Celebrations. Recaps will show creators how well their content performed over the last month and share education and content inspiration based on their app activity. It will also provide feedback on how they can improve their content the following month. Celebrations, on the other hand, appear when creators hit a specific milestone – e.g. reaching 10,000 followers.
Instagram is rolling out a new feature to let you share the music you are currently listening to on Spotify, directly on Notes. This feature is part of Instagram’s ongoing collaboration with Spotify. Now, you can give your IG followers a live update on your music choices, making it easier to connect over shared tastes or discover new tracks.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri has confirmed that the platform is “exploring a way” to let you reorder your grid posts and post to your account without sending it to your followers’ feeds. He also announced that trial Reels are now available to all users. The idea of these features is to make posting less intimidating and to help you keep your account active without any external pressure.
