Instagram rolls out ‘Your activity’ and ‘Security checkup’ features worldwide
Fancy a bit of a feed clear out? Instagram is making it easier for you to bulk delete content and interactions with its new ‘Your activity’ tab, which has now been rolled out globally. Users can sort and filter their content and interactions by date and search for past comments, likes and stories replies from specific date ranges. Also new to the gram is ‘Security checkup’, helping you to keep hackers at bay. The feature guides users through the steps needed to secure their accounts, allowing them to check login activity, review profile information and confirm the accounts that share login information.
YouTube is adding new ways for creators to make money
Dollar dollar bills. That’s what YouTube is promising with its latest new features and tools. The platform is expanding the ways creators can monetise their content, as unveiled by YouTube’s chief product officer, Neal Mohan last week. YouTube Shorts will be getting a glow-up, with new video effects and editing capabilities amongst the new tools teased, as well as Super Chat. Shopping is going to be widely expanded across the app more generally, with plans for shoppable videos and Live Shopping in the pipeline.
Twitter unveils Q4 results
It’s the first major business update under new CEO Parag Agrawal and it looks like Twitter is growing but at a moderate rate. Its monetisable active users rose by 13 percent to 217 million. This is below the 218.6 million some analysts had expected, but revenue from 2021 was $5.08 billion, an increase of 37% year on year. So what’s next for the platform? Twitter has said it hopes to hit 315 million average monetisable daily active users by the end of 2023. With these latest figures, it looks like the channel is going to have to get its skates on.
LinkedIn teases a ‘no politics’ button
There are plenty of people who would rather keep their socials a politics-free space. This insight has led LinkedIn to test a ‘no politics’ feature in the US, which allows users to filter out political posts from their news feed. Political discussion and content is a major feature on most social platforms, and undoubtedly a key campaigning tool. This new feature is an interesting move from LinkedIn that could see other channels following suit.
TikTok updates its policies with focus on minor and LGBTQ safety
With such a young audience, harmful content is a cause for concern when it comes to TikTok. The platform has announced plans to crack down on this issue, laying out a roadmap for addressing serious issues around hateful ideologies, with a particular focus on LGBTQ and minor safety. The policy will now specify that practices like deadnaming and misgendering, misogyny, or content supporting or promoting conversion therapy programmes will not be permitted. Other plans include a new age-appropriate design, as well as developing a system to identify and restrict certain types of content from being accessed by teens.
Reddit Talk gains new features
For Reddit Talk fans, there’s plenty to get excited about in the coming weeks. Recording has come to the feature, meaning you can relive your favourite verbal moments over and over again. The feature also boasts playback tools that let you jump to certain timestamps, pause and unpause recordings, as well as fast-forwarding or rewinding them. The platform has also unveiled that it is expanding Talk to the web, with the feature coming to desktop ‘later this month’.
