We Are Social 3 – Razorfish 4
It was a first for me. All day the banter and morale was high. Anticipation was ripe all day, the skipper finally declaring himself fit after a few days under the weather. A lot of players declared their intent to proudly put on the famous “white strip”. In the end, the manager had a few difficult tough calls for the final 8.
Both homegrown January transfers, Tom and myself were handed debuts in a desperate quest to stop the rot, and pick up our first points of 2012.
Right from kickoff, We Are Social applied pressure high up the pitch, and with Ollie and Jaime passing the ball around like world champions, the tone was set for a win. With effective substitutions by Adam, and with both Tom O and Tom H coming on to reinforce the starting line up, the tone was set for victory. However due to tired legs and lack of concentration from a direct free kick, we conceded: 1-0 to Razorfish.
Ed, Ollie and Jaime kept trying to carve out opportunities but Razorfish were up to the task. Razorfish were having none of Ollie’s silky footwork, and persistently fouled him, leaving him frustrated. However just before the half, Ollie’s persistence led to an equaliser after some deft touches to take us into the half 1 -1. Adam proceeded to play a delightful cross-field ball, bisecting the Razorfish defence and leaving Tom Ollerton in on goal, but the tall Northumberlander couldn’t finish. It was symptomatic of the performance: brilliant midfield play from Bernstein (and others) wasn’t taken advantage of in the final third.
At the start of the second half, we conceded two goals in quick succession. Heads went down but Adam’s skilful substitutions again brought us back alive with Toyin coming on and receiving a pass from Ollie, only to side step a defender and slide one around the goal keeper with an Henry-like finish. 3-2: game on.
Unfortunately just after the restart and with what can only be described as absolute madness, Razorfish responded immediately. Ed, wearing some classic adidas Predators pulled a goal back, but it wasn’t enough for We Are Social, as despite throwing the kitchen sink at Razorfish, we couldn’t force an equaliser.
Another gutwrenching defeat – but we showed enough in this performance to suggest we can get off the bottom of the table. Having said that, our man of the match was once again Dan, our goalkeeper – so it might not be so rosy after all.
We Are Social: Adam, Dan, Ed, Jaime, Ollie, Tom H, Tom O, Toyin.
