We Are Social’s Monday Mashup #604
Instagram is testing an in-app scheduling tool for posts and Reels
Social Media Managers, this is the news you’ve all been waiting for. Instagram is (finally) testing an in-app scheduling tool. To schedule posts on Instagram, many people rely on third-party tools, but if Instagram were to adopt this feature, it’d make the process far more streamlined, allowing you to do everything in one place. Whether this will be adopted globally, only time will tell, but this could be Christmas come early for marketers.
Pinterest partners with record labels to bring music to ‘Idea Pins’
Popular music ftw. Pinterest’s ‘Idea Pins’ feature is gaining new music thanks to new licensing deals with Warner Music Group, Warner Chappell Music, Merlin and BMG. To make it nice and easy to scroll through all the new musical content, Pinterest is introducing a new music experience on iOS and Android, allowing users to search for music by artist, track name or keyword. ‘Idea Pins’ is Pinterest’s TikTok competitor, so gaining popular music is the natural next step in the feature’s evolution.
Instagram’s DM filter tool expands to Story Replies
Replies to Instagram Stories are about to get a lot safer, as the platform has extended its DM filter tool to the feature. Last year the channel introduced ‘Hidden Words’ which let you filter abusive DMs, but this didn’t cover replies to Stories. Instagram is also expanding its preventive blocking tool, blocking new accounts from someone you have already blocked and blocking accounts that the person might already have. The company said its initial tests suggest that people must block four million fewer accounts weekly. Not too shabby.
Snapchat expands its paid subscription with Story expiration controls, and more
Three new features are coming to those who pay up on Snapchat. The first is the ability to have Snapchat Stories expire at different intervals instead of the usual 24 hours. Secondly, users can now add new camera colour borders that appear when taking photos with the in-app camera, adding a bit of pizazz to their pictures. And lastly, a little sounds update. Subscribers can use different custom notification sounds for when a friend Snaps them.
