The role

We’re looking for a Strategy Director who’s equal parts cultural architect and commercial thinker, someone who can connect the dots between people, platforms and purpose to drive world-class, socially-led creative thinking.

You’ll be responsible for leading strategic excellence across key clients, nurturing the next generation of strategic talent, and shaping the agency’s overall strategic product. You’ll partner closely with creative, client service and media leadership to ensure our ideas are not only talked about, but transformative for brands and business.

This is a role for someone who thrives on big, brave thinking, grounded in insight, powered by social, and capable of inspiring teams and clients alike.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Define and lead the development of integrated brand, communications and social strategies for top-tier clients
  • Champion social thinking as a core driver of brand and business growth.
  • Translate cultural intelligence and audience insight into clear, actionable strategic platforms.
  • Provide strategic oversight across multiple projects, ensuring work ladders up to broader brand and business objectives.
  • Inspire creative teams with sharp, simple and culture-led briefs that unlock bold ideas worth talking about.

Team and Talent Development:

  • Mentor and develop the Strategy team, guiding Senior and Mid-Level Strategists to sharpen their craft and grow their confidence.
  • Foster a collaborative culture across Strategy, Insights, Creative and Client Service.
  • Help shape the agency’s strategic tools, frameworks and ways of working.
  • Build succession planning and capability pipelines, ensuring the agency has a future-ready team of strategists.

Client and Commercial Leadership:

  • Build trusted relationships with senior clients, acting as their go-to strategic advisor.
  • Own strategic growth across key accounts, proactively identifying opportunities for expansion, new revenue streams, and partnership innovation.
  • Lead and contribute to new business pitches, framing compelling narratives that show the power of social thinking.
  • Work with the CSO and senior leadership team to define the strategic direction of the agency and identify growth opportunities.
  • Ensure all strategic output is commercially sound and sets the agency apart from competitors.
  • Champion We Are Social’s thought leadership externally through panels, articles, and industry engagement, reinforcing the agency’s position as a leader in social thinking.

While the specific content of your role is clearly defined, the nature of the demands placed on us by our clients means that this role will evolve over time and needs a “can do” approach.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in strategy roles within leading creative or socially-led agencies.
  • Proven ability to define and lead brand, comms and social strategies end-to-end, from discovery to delivery to optimisation.
  • Deep understanding of digital culture and platform ecosystems, with a sharp instinct for what moves people and markets.
  • Confident communicator and storyteller, able to distill complexity into clarity and inspire belief in a room.
  • Natural mentor with a reputation for raising the bar in teams around you.
  • Comfortable with data, insight and measurement, while driven by cultural relevance and creative impact.
  • Described by others as curious, decisive, collaborative, culturally fluent and commercially astute.
