The role

We Are Social is a socially-led creative agency: Over 1,200 social experts in 15 offices around the world proving the power of social thinking to drive business value.

Here in Sydney, we are a group of people from different walks of life, united by a passion for fast and popular culture. We love to help smart brands immerse their stories in the real conversations their audience are having. How do we do that?

We put social thinking at the centre of what we do.

We connect people and brands in meaningful ways.

We create ideas worth talking about.

We Are Social.

At We Are Social we love diversity of thought and experience. That’s why we like to welcome the unique voices and talents that haven’t been traditionally embraced by advertising. Learn more about our culture and our work

Requirements

We are an agency full of passionate individuals driven by ideas worth talking about. We have huge creative ambition. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new team members to deliver the kind of work that people seek out, share, celebrate and come back to.

A switched-on student or recent graduate with strong communication skills, training in social media or marketing and eager to pursue a career in social, you’ll be working directly with internal stakeholders, across all departments from Creative, to Client Service, Editorial and Strategy.

You don’t need to know all the in’s and out’s on the internet, that’s what we’re here to support you on, you just need to bring the energy and love coming up with ideas and learning the process involved in bringing them to life.

Benefits

The Intern Experience

Interns are the next generation of social creatives and are here at WAS to absorb everything we have on offer. To learn, develop their skills and knowledge in social and their experience of working life. The nature of social also means we have a lot to learn from them. They’re on the forefront on what’s happening on platforms, what audiences are after, and how to connect with them. We need to lean into this knowledge, their passion points, their perspectives for this to be a program that benefits both parties.

You will be mentored and supported by leads across departments. There’s nothing we love more than seeing people grow at We Are Social and we’re proud that so many of our team and agency staff have grown with the business and added new skills to their arsenal. An intern placement whether a week, or a month, we’ll follow the same process.

Intern Interview

  • What do you want to get out of your intern experience?
  • What are your strengths and skills you’d like to develop?
  • What does Ideas Worth talking about mean to you?

Engaging successful applicants

Each intern will undertake a WAS onboarding; the schedule for which will be mapped in advance, as we would with any new starter.

  • The WAS starter onboarding with our Office Manager Chloe and IT introduction with Ben
  • A face to face introduction with representatives from each department that the intern will work with and a coffee chat with their buddy for the time of their internship
  • Office Tour including work areas, ‘breakout’ areas, where to get food from inside or outside your office, the procedures, etc.
  • A clear outline of the job/role requirements (which should be the same as the original job advert), including a discussion of the day-to-day duties that the intern will be responsible for in addition to any short-term and long-term objectives that are relevant at the beginning of the internship (for example projects that the intern will be working on).
  • WAS Vision and Mission with Suzie Shaw CEO
  • WAS How To with the P&C team & ASANA training with Dean

The Day-to-Day

Interns will be allocated jobs specific to projects taking place across departments, wherever possible we should link them to work and people that align with particular skills sets, and involve them in team meetings, L&D sessions etc.

In any given week you’ll work with cross functional teams on all aspects of the client service and creative development process.

Your time will be planned by your WAS manager for the week ahead, but as is the nature of social, this can change as the day or week goes on. We’ll endeavour to provide you with opportunities that demonstrate the end-to-end process of a task from internal kick off or WIP meetings, to brainstorms and daily Newsroom meets, to creative reviews, WAS L&D sessions and production where possible.

You will also be allocated a Buddy – a junior member of the team, who has recently been through a similar integration into the business who is on hand to support with any questions you might have, to share experiences with, and have fun whilst doing it.

End of Placement

It would be great to hear from you on what you’ve learnt, and what you’ll take back to your studies after completing your time with WAS. We ask you to prepare a 15 min presentation for the team which we’ll enjoy over morning tea.

An end of placement interview will also take place with our P&C Manager in which you can share feedback for us to improve.
