If you are like me, gawking over my favorite celebrities donning glittering red carpet gowns at star-studded events is one of my favorite past times. So, when the opportunity arose to work with Donna Karan Atelier to showcase how their red carpet gowns are created, we jumped at the chance to design and develop a custom Facebook application to do the job.
Fans of the Donna Karan New York Facebook page can track the journey of the Atelier gowns from inspiration to red carpet debut. Entering into the application, a world map highlights the latest stop of the gowns’ global travels. One gown may be in LA for a celebrity fitting. Another may just be arriving to New York to enter into Donna’s workshop. Fans can scroll through a timeline of updates from each of the gowns in the app through their individual dress profiles, or view tweets by the famous DKNY PR GIRL on the subject. Once a gown has debuted on the red carpet, users can find it in the gallery section of the application, complete with the design room sketches and red carpet glamour shots of each gown.
