Elon Musk pulls out of $44bn deal to buy Twitter
It’s a story with more twists and turns than a murder mystery, and now Elon Musk is seeking to end his bid to buy Twitter. His reasoning? Twitter allegedly failed to provide enough information on the number of spam and fake accounts. This is a statement that Twitter vehemently denies, claiming it removes around 1 million spam accounts every day. Things could get nasty, with Twitter planning to pursue legal action to enforce the deal. Grab the popcorn, things are only just getting started.

Pinterest launches new shopping features for merchants
Pinterest merchants, listen up! The platform is rolling out new features designed to make it easier for merchants to create engaging shopping experiences for users. Features include Pinterest API for Shopping, giving merchants access to product metadata, providing more efficient data quality for merchant products. There’s also ‘Product Tagging on Pins,’ a tool that makes lifestyle Pins shoppable. Merchants can add products from their catalogue to their scene images, and then users can shop for the exact items from the imagery.

Twitter is testing CoTweets
Collaboration is pretty cool and Twitter has taken notice, officially launching a test of a CoTweets feature. CoTweets allows two accounts to co-author a tweet and both be tagged in a single tweet. This will help accounts reach new audiences and enhance established partnerships. The test is now live and available to a few select users in Canada, Korea and the US for a limited time. Keep an eye out to see whether CoTweets becomes a future Twitter staple.

Reddit is launching a new NFT- based avatar marketplace
NFT avatars are coming to Reddit. The platform has launched a marketplace that allows you to purchase blockchain-based profile pictures. If you don’t have a crypto wallet, don’t fret, all you need is a credit or debit card. You can then store your lovely new avatars in Reddit’s own wallet product. Ninety designs are on offer, with purchasers gaining licensing rights to use the image on and off Reddit. NFT avatars will be available to members of the r/CollectibleAvatars invite-only subreddit for a first look.

TikTok is testing the ability to restrict livestreams to viewers aged 18+
For adults eyes only. TikTok is testing a new setting that allows users to restrict their livestreams to viewers aged 18 years or above. Users can put this in place by toggling the ‘mature themes’ button in their settings. However, this isn’t a one-way route to an OnlyFans style offering, with TikTok highlighting that the content is still subject to the app’s policies. That means any videos containing nudity, sexual activity or violence, will still be removed. This results from feedback from users, who sometimes wish to reach a specifically older audience.

How brands can engage sports fans in 2022 and beyond
It’s a fan’s world. Last week, We Are Social Sport released its first sport report; The Future of Sports Fandom: How brands can engage sports fans in 2022 and beyond. With news of Gen Z being less interested in sports than their predecessors, attention spans dwindling and long-term trends showing a decline in TV ratings for sports, much of the industry finds itself concerned about its future. Many industry insiders feel like the very nature of sport itself, the competition, needs a complete overhaul. At We Are Social Sport we disagree. The report explores how sports marketers can successfully navigate the key shifts being witnessed in the sports fandom landscape.
