51% following the World Cup on Facebook
We’re now more than two weeks into the World Cup, and GlobalWebIndex has produced this graph looking at how people are keeping up-to-date with the tournament.
Interestingly, the graph shows that 51% of people are using Facebook to follow the World Cup, ahead of more formal and official channels such as FIFA’s website (29%) or news outlets (45%).
The data has also been split by country, showing Brazil as the nation following the World Cup most closely.
GlobalWebIndex also looked into what all this conversation on social channels is actually about. It found that people were most likely to post on a social network when the final result of a match was determined, as well as (of course) when a goal was scored.
