Twitter is working on a long text-to-thread feature
Another week, another update on Twitter madness. Musk has kicked his colleagues out of the building for the week effective immediately, without reason. This follows Musk’s call for staff to sign up for ‘long hours at high intensity’ or leave, prompting many team members to do just that. It may be a waiting game for those wanting to get their hands on the new Twitter Blue plan, as newly-created accounts will have to wait 90 days before grabbing their verification badge. Despite the drama, it looks like work is still underway as the platform is working on a feature that will separate long-form text into smaller chunks for a thread. The tool automatically breaks the text into a thread when it crosses the 280-character limit. This could make life much easier for tweeters who like a long rant, handing over the hard work to the platform.

WhatsApp expands its Directory feature
Need some keys cut or maybe you fancy a manicure? WhatsApp is making it easier for users to discover small businesses through its Directory feature. It was tested last year, and is now being expanded to several markets including the UK, Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia and Brazil. The app is also introducing ‘Business Search’ helping users to find larger businesses from within the platform. You can discover companies by browsing various categories, such as banking, food, drink etc. These updates indicate that WhatsApp is moving further into the commerce space, a way to make money via an otherwise free service.

Snapchat marks the FIFA World Cup with new AR experiences and filters
The 2023 World Cup is underway in Qatar and Snapchat is marking the tournament by releasing an array of new features. The app has partnered with adidas to let users virtually dress their Bitmoji in a range of football kits. You’ll also be able to gain access to official team stickers and filters to decorate your snaps and show support for your team. Snap Map will feature curated stories of fans watching and celebrating their team during the games.

Twitter lifts Donald Trump’s ban
After his account was suspended in 2021, former US President Donald Trump is now allowed back on Twitter. The decision came after a poll on the platform deciphered 51.8% of 15 million Twitter users voted for the ban to be lifted. However, Trump may not resume his usual Twitter tirades, as in response to the ban lift he commented he didn’t see any reason to return to the channel.
